In 1965, after many years of processing and distributing poultry in the St. Louis area, Joseph McLain started a poultry trading business known as Joseph C. McLain & Company, Inc.

Joseph ran the company by himself until his son, Mark McLain joined the company in 1977. They worked together for thirteen years and in 1990, Joseph sold the company to Mark. At this time, the company name was changed to McLain Foods Inc.

In 1992, Mark moved the company from St. Louis, Missouri to Clearwater, Florida.

In the 1980's, McLain Foods had a close relationship with J.E. Parker Company. The Parker Company further processed fowl and fryers and McLain Foods provided the sales for these products. Today, they are still the largest volume items McLain Foods moves. Pat Pinho was the General Manager of Parker and since 1995 has been a trader for McLain Foods.
